I cooked hamburger steak for dinner. I cooked hard without much success, but it was delicious, I thought. I want to try again.

After classes, I went to the PARCO and TSURUYA for shopping alone. A sale is held now in the Parco. I thought many things were very cheap. So, I bought socks and one-piece dress. I want to go to there again.

Today's class

　I slept late this morning. I though this morning was very cold, so I was not able to take the first class, Japanese history. Second class was Listening class. Today, There was a listening test in class. I studied listening test yesterday, but I couldn't solve test.( ;_ ;) So I am afraid of a semester test.

nanakusa-gayu

I ate nanakusa-gayu at the dinner. On the morning of January 7, or the night before, people place the nanakusa, rice scoop, and wooden pestle on the cutting board and, facing the good-luck direction, chant "Before the birds of the continent fly to Japan, let's get nanakusa" while cutting the herbs into pieces. This chant varies as well.
The seventh of the first month has been an important Japanese festival since ancient times. The custom of eating nanakusa-gayu on this day, to bring longevity and health, developed in Japan from a similar ancient Chinese custom, intended to ward off evil. Since there is little green at that time of the year, the young green herbs bring color to the table and eating them suits the spirit of the New Year.

　The movie which I want to watch now is Sweeney Todd: The demon barber of Fleet street. Of course, Sweeney is Johnny Depp. I'm looking forward to watching this movie. However, I do not know contents of this story well. But I want to watch this movie.

Winter vacation finished

Red and White Song Battle

Kōhaku Uta Gassen, more commonly known as simply Kōhaku, is an annual music show on the New Year's Eve produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK and broadcast on both television and radio, nationally and internationally by NHK's networks and some overseas (mainly cable) broadcasters which bought the program. The show ends shortly before midnight (when NHK switches to a frenzy of "Happy New Year" greetings from around the nation).

Literally "Red and White Song Battle," the program divides the most popular music artists of the year into competing teams of red and white. The "red" team or akagumi is composed of all female artists (or groups with female vocals), while the "white" team or shirogumi is all male (or groups with male vocals). The honor of performing on Kōhaku is strictly by invitation, so only the most successful J-Pop artists and enka singers can perform. In addition to the actual music performances, the costumes, hair-styles, makeup, dancing, and lighting are also important. Even today, a performance on Kōhaku is said to be a big highlight in a singer's career because of the show's large reach.
